23rd annual meeting of the socity of packaging science & technology, Japan
23rd Annual meeting for packaging will hold 3rd to 4th on July 2014 in Tokyo university, Japan.

Package exhibition in Japan 2014
The most famous and biggest exhibition, Tokyo Pack, related with package will open in Tokyo, Japan.
Date is 10th from October 7th, 2014.

This exhibition is held every other year in Tokyo Big sight.

Shock test by mechanical stress
Today, I would like to introduce the shock testing system by mechanical shock.
At first, outline of this testing system is explained.
Shock machine has a table to generate the mechanical shock pulse is able to move to vertical direction with guide rods.
The peak acceleration of the shock pulse can be controlled by this height.
Generally, the cushion pad is fixed under the table to control the duration of shock pulse.
Short duration is generated by the hard cushion pad, the soft cushion pad leads the long duration.
Shock acceleration on the shock table is measured with acceleration measurement system.
You can understand instantly how shock pulse is generated on this table.
To perform this test, tested sample is set on the table and raised it until the test height.
When you pushed the start button, the table starts to drop freely along the guide and impact to the cushion pad.
Then, the shock pulse is generated on the table and transmitted it to the tested sample.
The sample is no damage after this test, it means you pass the shock test.
If the sample is broken, you have to improve the sample and try again to pass the test.

Introduce of Distribution Data Recorder
I would like to introduce the data recorder, DER1000.
This device has 3D accelerometer, Temperature and humidity sensor.

Cushion Material Test by Dynamic Compression Tester
You also need to know about the charactaristic data of cushion material, when you design the package.
This data is often given from cushion material company, but if there are no data, you can obtain it by cushion tester.
This test is held in order to perform dymamic compression to blockish cushion materials.
In concrete terms, we can measure the acceleration and displacement of the weight by dropping the test weight to the top surface of the material.
Then so, from these test parameters, we can find the cushion material charactaristics as "Cushion curve" from these tested parameter.
If the cushin curve and product fragirity as critical acceleration is recognized beforehand, cushion effect of designed package freight will be optimized.

Shock Fragility Test by Shock Machine
This test has been carried out to identify the shock fragility charactaristics by the shock machie.
It is very important to know the fragility of packged products to realize the appropriate package design.
If the product has a enough strength shock resistance, fewer cushion materials will be required to design package.
Here, the strength of product is represented as "Damege Boundary Curve" that is constructed by critical acceleration and critical velocity change.
These values are decided by shock fragility test.
"Critical velocity change" represent the resistance to free fall.
"Critical acceleration" value is used to cushioning package design.
All the packages are designed under this value when the drop test is performed.

Distribution Data Recorder (1)
This time, it's about the importance of the distribution data recorder.
These test intensity, -Drop height and cycle of the drop test, PSD and duration of random vibration condition- is often based on the test regulation like ISO4180, ASTM-D4169 or JIS-Z0200.
However, the intensity on the regulation is not nessesarily equivalent to the actual disribution environment.
If regulation intensity is over the distribution feild, the designed package will be over-packaged since it takes too expensive cost by many cushion materials.
Distribution data recorder has been used to identify the distribution environment to derive the optimal test condition.
It means to realize the opitimal package design.
As you see, to realize the optimal package design is very important and to meet the demand, we have been providing the data recorder, model DER-1000.
